REQUIREMENTS TO PROCESS A PASSPORT FOR A MINOR
(free of charge)


 
To request a passport for a minor when one or both parents are NOT present:

 1. When the minor is in Guatemala and one or both parents are abroad:

 The parents must come to the nearest consular office bringing along with them the following documents:       

- Father and/or Mother must present a valid passport or Cédula de Vecindad

- Minor Birth Certificate (ORIGINAL)

- Photocopy of the Cédula de Vecindad from the person who is the guardian/custodian of minor to the Passport office in Guatemala.

- Photocopy of all mentioned documents.

NOTE: Once you receive the documents issued by the Consulate it is your responsibility to send the document to Guatemala and have it certified by the Authentication Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guatemala city (2º. Avenida 4-17, Zona 10 / Tel  2410-0000)

  

2. When the minor is abroad and one or both parents are in Guatemala:

 The parents must go to Consular Affairs Office at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Guatemala city (2º. Avenida 4-17, Zona 10), bringing Cédula de Vecindad, on order to sign the corresponding document which will be needed to issue a passport to the minor abroad.

 Requirements:

- Father and/or Mother Cédula de Vecindad

- Original birth certificate (Issued in the last 6 months)

- Photocopy of the passport or Cédula de Vecindad of the guardian/custodian who will take the child to the nearest consulate.

NOTE: Once the document is issued in Guatemala, the corresponding office will fax or email the authorization to the corresponding consulate of Guatemala. It regularly take 2 to 4 business days. After that, the guardian/custodian and the minor may come to the consulate bringing the following documents:

- Guardian/Custodian's Cédula de Vecindad or passport and

- Minor's Birth Certificate
